The Fishing Boat Gustave Courbet.
I still remember setting out together—
our days spread before us
like droplets of moss-colored jewels
in a vast, untamed sea.
How I loved you! Even when dark clouds
hovered above us
and our small boat was tossed, I loved you.
But I believed
what you did not
and you left me here—
broken, shipwrecked,
though not alone.
See the amber light rising in the east?
I followed it.
